Caddyshack in a Day: Team Klinward

Congratulations to Team Klinward did the entire Caddyshack Tour in 1 day, morning to evening, including the big 19th hole bush-whacka-cache as the grand finale. The series takes you from bouncing around from Martinez, to Clayton, to Orinda, to Danville, to Dublin, to Pleasanton -- and to finally finish the whole big adventure back in Blackhawk. They are the 7th team to finish the series (see Leaderboard for detail).

When we setup the series, we didn't really think that anyone would attempt to do it all in a day -- it's a lot of driving. However, Team Klinward took off one Friday, into the teeth of a commute traffic, fueled by Starbucks and a Geocaching need for extreme accomplishment -- a nailed them all down... Frankly, none of the caches are very challenging - a few hides may take time for people to find, hidden in plain site, yet very difficult to see -- but the final cache, the 19th hole, is intended to be a tough one, ditched up in the hills over Blackhawk Country Club. The hike isn't all that long, but it's up, and then some down, steep, slippery, bushwhacked all the way, and then back out again... Several teams have done it -- but Team Klinward did it late in the evening, after driving between 18 other destinations (see attached route).

Interestingly enough, GRH1 recently ran into Team Klinward, as we both chased after a local FTF opportunity in Las Trampas. All 4 of them, kids including, were trudging up one of the Las Trampas trail, flashlights in hand, chasing after a evil cache up there... Group Success.

GeoRedheads rock the Tramp!

The GeoRedhead collective managed to score the STF, Second to Find, in the Las Trampas Challenge, Friday, finishing literally just in time, right before the flood gates were opened of a bunch of new LT Caches.

In caching, there are always new caches being hidden in your area -- and it's a big rush to be able to get to these new caches before any of the other people in your area. Around the East Bay, it's about the Challenge Caches, which are used to designate a special recognition for getting all of the caches in one of the local regional parks. For GeoRedheads, we scored in Las Trampas, which is a set of hills with great sceneries, good vertical, and a great variety of terrain types -- one of our favorite local places to go get some hiking cardio in - Las Trampas is home to over 70 caches... lots of fun to find in the hills!

Anyway, had some extra time on a Friday afternoon, and managed to squeeze out the 4 caches -- just in time, right before the Alamogul, local international-class caching machine, and his partner in caching crime Jellis, hid and published 4 more caches... Literally, we signed the log on the final "Las Trampas Challenge" cache, and 3 more new released onto the web within hours. Had we waited a day, we would have had to chase those down too, adding many more miles to our trek - now, we can get them when we want to, with the challenge under our belts, on our own terms. And, had we waited to chase down those 3, 2 more were published shortly after that... the caching karma timing gods smiled upon us.
